ABOUT

A method running throughout Teemu Saukkonen's art is its physical nature from his professional breakthrough in the early 1980s to the present day. It is expressed in prominent planes of colour and the large format of the works. His roots are in Western modernism with the further touch of his several visits to Southeast Asia in recent years.

Saukkonen's paintings of happiness and tragedy of life combine asceticism and expression, empathy and gallows humour. Human figures and animals express a feeling of alienation, letting go, power and caring. The emotional basis for all this is set by sensitive colour.

Works by Teemu Saukkonen have been on display in numerous exhibitions both in Finland and internationally. They are included in the collections of leading art museums and foundations in Finland.
